The Challenge

Following the most significant cyberattack on Irish state in 2021, it was immediately recommended that a formal employee cybersecurity awareness training program be initiated throughout all County Councils, accompanied by a phishing campaign to bolster cybersecurity practices within each local authority. Longford County Council, with their already well-established commitment to cybersecurity excellence recognised that staff could create a potential vulnerability for the Council. Employees can become easy targets for phishing attacks, malware downloads, and social engineering scams.

The Solution

While security awareness campaigns using software are effective, Paradyn felt that delivering In-person security awareness training offers distinct advantages over online modules. The face-to-face interaction allows for a more engaging and interactive experience, fostering better understanding and retention of complex security concepts. Paradyn’s Security Awareness Expert adapts the content based on real-time cyber scenarios and risks, ensuring that the organisations specific concerns are addressed.

Conclusion

Through our in-person security awareness training the staff of Longford Co Co are educated and leave the workshops much more confident knowing what to look out for with any threats of phishing, malware & social engineering. In general, they now feel they know what the do’s and don’ts are when it comes to their security obligations when using an organisation asset. With each staff member in attendance as a mandatory requirement, Longford Co Co can now affirm they have delivered a comprehensive Security awareness training Programme to their staff and Councillors to mitigate the risk of a data breach or cyber event happening.

“The training was a huge success, with special thanks to Eileen. Her ability to tailor the content to our specific needs was impressive. Her background gave her a great understanding of where our organisation was coming from, and her expertise helped us get the most out of the session.”

The Challenge

Given 8 West’s rigorous commitment to cybersecurity excellence, assistance was needed to address all vulnerabilities with a CVSS score of 8 or higher, as identified by 8 West’s Endpoint Central and Crowdstrike solutions.

The Solution

In response, Paradyn developed a two-pronged project plan. Initially, we assessed 8 West’s existing implementation of ManageEngine Endpoint Central to ensure it aligned with best practice. We then refined the Endpoint Central configuration and processes after mutual agreement. Utilising the updated Endpoint Central, all identified patched were systematically deployed to rectify the vulnerabilities, aligning the systems with the project’s objectives. Where required, our engineers coordinated with users to facilitate required reboots, ensuring devices complied with the enhanced security standards.

Conclusion

Paradyn’s strategic use of ManageEngine Endpoint Central effectively reduced 8 West’s risk profile to an acceptable level. In collaboration with 8 West’s IT personnel, we established improved patching practices for consistent updates, encompassing Microsoft, third-party, and more complex applications such as Visual Studio. This partnership not only addressed the immediate concerns but also strengthened 8 West’s future security posture.

“While innovation and competitive pricing are essential, what truly sets Paradyn apart is their unwavering commitment to providing exceptional service. They are an invaluable partner in our success.”.

The Challenge

Daughters of Charity Child and Family Services (DoCCFS) had a Wide Area Network (WAN) that was no longer fit for purpose. The user experience at their 17 remote offices when using their newly implemented cloud applications was not sufficient due to connectivity and network outages. In addition, DoCCFS wanted to provide users with the latest WiFi technology to further enhance user access and flexibility.

The Solution

Paradyn designed and implemented a robust and high-speed Managed WiFi and Wide Area Network (SD-WAN), for DoCCFS to deliver greater connectivity across all their remote office locations. The new network leverages Cisco Meraki enterprise technology and is delivered via a cloud platform. In addition, it will strengthen their security, mitigating the risk of cyber-attacks and delivering more visibility across the network and devices. The solution does not require configuration backups by third parties and gives more control to the IT team who will be able to implement changes to the network remotely.

Conclusion

By implementing this solution DoCCFS have enabled greater accessibility, productivity, and provided a unified solution that delivers extensive insights across all connected devices. With this implementation, DoCCFS can now enjoy the benefits of a highly connected communications infrastructure which delivers greater capabilities to their users and a higher return on investment.

“We were absolutely delighted by the support we received by Paradyn at all stages of this project. It was a seamless transition to our new provider and has enabled us to ensure that our services across 17 different sites operate in a more streamlined and efficient way, so we can deliver the best services for the children and families that we serve.” – Dr. Tracey A Monson, CEO

The Challenge:

Sligo County Council delivers a wide range of government services to over 62,000 citizens. To meet these needs Sligo County Council embarked on a hybrid cloud and modern workspace project that aligns with the Irish government’s cloud-first initiative. Now fully online with Microsoft’s M365 there was an immediate requirement to secure the Council’s data but also how could existing backup problem be improved by leveraging cloud first backup technology.

The Solution:

Paradyn implemented a Vault365 solution powered by Veeam technology to standardise data protection across Sligo County Council’s hybrid cloud IT infrastructure and increase ransomware resilience with immutable backups in Paradyn’s private cloud object storage.

The solution backs up 500+ M365 account data to cloud storage with self service portal to restore email using the eDiscover feature giving exceptional granularity ability in what to restore with excellent RTO and RPO.

Seeing the success and value of the M365 backup solution Sligo County Council also now backup 20Tb of data across 50 virtual machines using Veeam Connect to cloud object storage. With a true Air Gap model now in place immutability is a key value to Sligo County Council’s new Backup & Disaster Recovery solution.

Conclusion:

Local Government getting hit by ransomware is a major worry for the sector, so with immutable data in cloud object storage Sligo County Council now have significant peace of mind. The speed at which backup jobs now complete has been a revelation, with all applications, in particular SQL, leaving Sligo County Council’s IT staff very comfortable and confident in managing the solution.

“We’ve found this solution to be a real game changer, it has accelerated our digital transformation and played a pivotal role in giving us comfort knowing our backup data is secure and accessible, something we would never have accomplished without Paradyn & their Backup Solution Architect, Wayne de Vos.” – Jimmy O’Brien, Head of Information Security.
