The Challenge

Following the most significant cyberattack on Irish state in 2021, it was immediately recommended that a formal employee cybersecurity awareness training program be initiated throughout all County Councils, accompanied by a phishing campaign to bolster cybersecurity practices within each local authority. Longford County Council, with their already well-established commitment to cybersecurity excellence recognised that staff could create a potential vulnerability for the Council. Employees can become easy targets for phishing attacks, malware downloads, and social engineering scams.

The Solution

While security awareness campaigns using software are effective, Paradyn felt that delivering In-person security awareness training offers distinct advantages over online modules. The face-to-face interaction allows for a more engaging and interactive experience, fostering better understanding and retention of complex security concepts. Paradyn’s Security Awareness Expert adapts the content based on real-time cyber scenarios and risks, ensuring that the organisations specific concerns are addressed.

Conclusion

Through our in-person security awareness training the staff of Longford Co Co are educated and leave the workshops much more confident knowing what to look out for with any threats of phishing, malware & social engineering. In general, they now feel they know what the do’s and don’ts are when it comes to their security obligations when using an organisation asset. With each staff member in attendance as a mandatory requirement, Longford Co Co can now affirm they have delivered a comprehensive Security awareness training Programme to their staff and Councillors to mitigate the risk of a data breach or cyber event happening.

“The training was a huge success, with special thanks to Eileen. Her ability to tailor the content to our specific needs was impressive. Her background gave her a great understanding of where our organisation was coming from, and her expertise helped us get the most out of the session.”

Danny Lynch, Head of Information Systems – Longford County Council
